EirGen Pharma:
A validated LMS triggers steady HR transformation

ased in Waterford, Ireland, EirGen Pharma develops and supplies specialty care medicines to more than 50 countries worldwide. It was established in 2005 and has been part of the US company, OPKO Health since 2015. In late 2018 EirGen decided to replace its paper-based systems with an online Learning Management System (LMS).
System Validation Requirements
As an international pharmaceutical business, EirGen is subject to the regulatory requirements of several jurisdictions. The regulations set a standard for Computer System Validation (CSV), to ensure that computer-based systems do exactly what they are designed to do, in a consistent and reproducible manner.
“We set ourselves a target to replace our paper-based systems with an online Learning Management System (LMS). We wanted to manage our training programmes more effortlessly and effectively – and stay compliant,” says Juliett Hughes, New Technology Project Lead at EirGen Pharmaceutical. “Any new system would need to be validated to the necessary industry standards.”
Finding the Right Partner
EirGen evaluated several products, and SAP SuccessFactors emerged as the clear winner. However, the selection process highlighted the importance of having an implementation partner that understood EirGen’s business, as well as the regulatory environment in which it operated.
Implementation Approach
EirGen widened the scope to include SuccessFactors Employee Central (EC) and Performance and Goal Management (PMGM) modules. These were implemented first to provide a core database on which to build the LMS solution. EC went live in May 2019, and PMGM is ready for the 2021 performance reviews in 2021. The LMS implementation continued seamlessly through the Covid crisis using remote working methods.
Reaping the Benefits
Implementation of LMS will be a seismic shift for the organisation, providing visibility to all staff on their training status.
EirGen’s training and development programmes will be easier to deliver, progress and track compliance more effectively - and transparently. Online training will enable staff to complete courses in their own time and coordinate learning around their other work commitments.
It’s a solid start that will bring about new ways of working and create new value for the organisation.
