Schott is a global material technology group and one of the leading specialty glass companies in the world. Headquartered in Mainz, Germany and with over 17,000 employees, Schott has a global presence in 30+ countries, including 40 production sites and 25 sales offices.
For several years the SAP SuccessFactors Learning platform has served as a reliable backbone for Schott’s learning management system, enabling consistent training, streamlined administration and compliance tracking for its international workforce.
As employee expectations around learning evolved, Schott recognised an opportunity to build upon the strong foundation provided by SAP SuccessFactors. The aim was to further empower its workforce by delivering exceptional learning experiences and personal skills development.
To achieve this vision, it needed to enhance the user experience and improve learning adoption rates. This meant introducing an intuitive user interface with personalised dashboards and seamless integration with leading content providers such as Udemy.
“We really wanted to make the learning experience more interactive and have greater influence over how it looks and feels for our learners,” explains Andreas Metzmann, Senior Training and Development Expert at Schott. “Looking ahead, we also see exciting opportunities to incorporate gamification, offering employees a more engaging and motivating way to grow their skills.”
Rather than replacing its existing Learning Management System (LMS), Schott chose to enhance and extend it by introducing Blend LXP, a Learning Experience Platform developed by TalenTeam, a leading SAP SuccessFactors partner.
“Blend LXP was recommended to us by SAP as a valuable addition to our SAP SuccessFactors environment to elevate our learning experience strategy,” says Roland Granzer, Head of IT, Schott. “Given TalenTeam’s strong reputation as an SAP partner with deep expertise in learning solutions, and after receiving positive feedback from reference customers, our HR and IT teams jointly decided to move forward with the collaboration.”
With the new Blend LXP fully integrated with the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) environment, Schott utilised SAP SuccessFactors Work Zone to create personalised and engaging digital workplace experiences for its employees.
This strategic approach enables Schott to retain the trusted capabilities and valuable training history of SAP SuccessFactors Learning, while simultaneously empowering learners with a more personalised, engaging, and gamified experience. It also maintains continuity for its global administrator base, avoiding large-scale retraining.
"We now have the best of both worlds. A stable core LMS combined with the user-focused enhancements of a modern LXP interface. It also means we can continue operating within the SAP ecosystem, ensuring seamless integration across our HR, IT and business processes" highlights Roland.
Partnering with TalenTeam allowed Schott to benefit from proven project management expertise, resulting in a swift and efficient delivery. A soft launch approach enabled the new LXP to be rolled out alongside the existing SAP SuccessFactors platform, giving users the opportunity to gradually transition, explore the new interface, and share feedback throughout the process.

One of the key advantages of Blend LXP is the introduction of new functionalities such as learning academies, cohort-based learning, and self-directed skills development.
Academies offer a more curated approach to content delivery, acting as dedicated portals tailored to specific topics or business units. For example, employees interested in Microsoft 365 or AI can easily explore relevant learning opportunities through visually engaging, mini learning hubs embedded within the broader platform.
The introduction of academies has already generated strong interest across Schott, with several departments, such as Advanced Optics, creating tailored pages to meet their specific training needs. This approach promotes business unit ownership by enabling departments to manage their own academies and align content with their unique goals
These academies feature intuitive tile-based navigation linking directly to courses and structured learning paths, often enhanced with introductory videos from leaders or subject-matter experts to provide context and motivation. The platform also supports extensive integration with external content sources, such as YouTube, Udemy, and others, expanding the learning ecosystem well beyond Schott’s core LMS.
Although not yet in use, Schott now has gamification capabilities built into its learning infrastructure, something that was previously out of reach due to cost and complexity. The company is already exploring how gamification could support future initiatives, such as a new company culture project where employees earn points for completing key training activities. This approach will aim to reinforce important messages and boost engagement across global teams.
“With our new setup, these gamification features are included as part of our existing license, giving us the flexibility to introduce them when the time is right,” explains Andreas. “It’s an exciting step forward that opens up new possibilities for how we support learning and development across the organisation.”
